Chinese New Year… just isn’t what it used to be. There just wasn’t any atmosphere whatsoever, just going through the mundane formalities that comes along with the festival. That’s not to say that I condone them, nor that I dislike them- something is just lacking. Maybe it’s the lack of school, with the lousy celebrations that actually drive home the message; maybe it’s the lack of a proper reunion dinner with the extended family- something that once was, but not anymore. I really can’t tell for sure.
So just that day we went to Chinatown on the pretext of inhaling the festive spirit. It didn’t work. Instead of the bustling New Year atmosphere one would expect to find, what we got was just.. a tourist hotspot, where hawkers tried to rip off those unsuspecting tourists. That, and the fact that there just wasn’t anything much to do/eat made us travel down to Haji lane (which was, really, just as boring). But not that I’m complaining though, company was awesome (yes, Awesome with a capital ‘A’) (: So yes, it made that day very bearable indeed (:
Happy Chinese New Year! *cues lousy music*
It’s so blatantly obvious I can’t even. And I’m really just bursting at the seams. It’s that kind of, suppressed-energy-and-about-to-explode feeling. Gahhhh
